Heron Tower, 110 Bishopsgate, London EC3

Rising 46 storeys to 202m, when complete this will be one of the tallest structures in the City of London. During October 2007, construction firm Skanska was awarded the contract to build the Heron Tower in the City of London. Construction finally started as of 29 April 2008 with the project scheduled for completion during the first quarter of 2011.

Skanska have huge experience in the construction of tall buildings in the United Kingdom with their most famous recent work being 30 St Mary Axe, also in the City of London, better known to the general public as “the Gherkin”.

Technical Paints have recently been sub-contracted by design consultants ICO Design to mix and produce a non-standard RAL colour paint for use on high visibility hoardings positioned around the perimeter of the Heron Tower construction site. The paint, AP109 Synthamel Undercoat and a specially formulated A109 Topcoat mixed to an individual release colour brown (RAL 040210), was created and blended in conjunction with Lisa Ronson from ICO Design. The paint, a non-standard product and generally not available from the majority of manufacturers, was delivered in a sufficient quantity to be applied every six months over the life of the project to ensure consistency of presentation and to enhance the durability of the hoardings.

With 100 Litres of AP109 and 500 Litres of A109 being formulated and produced within a three day schedule, for Technical Paints, this small yet very specialist requirement, demonstrates once again our unique ability to work closely with professional specifiers such as ICO Design, to satisfy a client requirement to both budget and timescale.
